MMRCC develops new field at Byram
After several years of negotiations with the City of Jackson and with th
e support of the Mayor, MMRCC has been granted permission by the City Council to use a closed section of the Jackson city landfill in Byram as a model aircraft flying field. There is a lot of preparation to do so the opening date for the new field has not yet been announced. Hopefully, weather permitting, it will be early spring.
The landfill area is approximately 75 acres of flat land with no trees or bushes to remove. Initially, MMRCC plans to construct a 600 to 1000 ft runway.
Because of the central location in the mid-south and large flying area, we anticipate that this field will provide a venue for major RC events in the future.

Things are taking shape. This is the progress through Saturday (1/31). Runway is almost finished. Now the fun starts - parking lot, shed, pit area etc.
Of course, there were a few that just couln't wait.
