Escondido California was established as a city in 1888 and boasts fifteen parks with mature shade trees that showcase Escondido’s vibrant community life. Escondido proudly celebrates its heritage through Grape Day Park Heritage Walk and San Pasqual Battlefield State Historic Park’s recreation of one of the bloodiest battles from Mexican-American War reenactments.

The city’s economy is strong. It boasts many long-established businesses such as Plan 9 Alehouse and Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps, as well as newer ventures like Plan 9 Alehouse that contribute to its strength.
History
Escondido was established during a land boom of the 1880s. Early settlers recognized that Escondido’s natural environment made it an ideal location for growing grapes and citrus fruits for farming.
Residents gathered early on through community fiestas, in-home plays and concerts played from a wagon pushed across Grand Avenue. A band would play classical music from the wagon. Today, these traditions can still be experienced through Heritage Walk at Grape Day Park.
In the 1970s, Escondido started providing more cultural opportunities for its residents. Escondido Regional Arts Council, Municipal Gallery and other local galleries offered a wide range of art experiences to residents. Stone Brewing Co. and Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps were also among the top employers in Escondido.
Arts & Culture
Escondido is known for its world-renowned California Center for the Arts, Niki de Saint Phalle’s vibrant sculpture garden and historic downtown lined with restaurants, museums, art galleries and unique shops.
California Center for the Arts is the cultural hub of North County. It offers a concert hall, a theater, expositions at the contemporary art museum, dance studios, and community facilities. Not to mention countless free events and an extensive educational program!
Locals of note include MySpace cofounder Tom Anderson, rock critic Lester Bangs, and Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps creator Emanuel Bronner. Downtown Escondido is the historic district that runs along Grand Avenue, from Centre City Parkway up to Ivy Street. There are many coffee shops, restaurants, and retail and artisan business centered around Grand Avenue.
Education
Escondido boasts many exceptional schools. Escondido’s public school system is overseen by the Escondido School District, which provides a wide range of educational programs. Test scores rank Escondido schools among California’s top half.
In Asia, the ratio of students to teachers is extremely low. This allows teachers to provide more personal attention to each student and creates an excellent learning environment.
Classical Academy High School stands out among public schools in its vicinity for being highly reviewed by Niche users. One such review highlighted how its dedicated administration and teachers care deeply for the school, being highly invested and constantly adapting and improving.

The City offers life-enhancing recreational programs and classes, including personal enrichment, music, arts & crafts, swimming, tennis, preschool and health & fitness. The City offers a variety of programs for youth, including ASES Before/After School Programs and day camps.
Kit Carson Park is 285 acres and features three ponds as well as multiple sports fields, playgrounds, and Niki de St Phalle’s Queen Califia Magical Circle sculpture.
El Norte Parkway in north Escondido boasts Escondido’s most recently developed neighborhood park – perfect for hiking, dog-walking and picnicking! This new-to-market area is full of activities and ideal for anyone wanting a place to unwind with nature or just pass some time with family and friends.
Environment
Escondido is located near Dixon Lake, Southwestern flora, such as chaparral brushlands, and grasslands. It has a Mediterranean climate, which means warm summers and mild winters.
Escondido is a coastal city with mountains nearby. Its climate is influenced by its location on the coast and its proximity to mountains. Summers are warmer in Escondido than San Diego, but cooler in inland California.
Recent years have seen several major employers establish operations in Escondido, such as Stone Brewing Co and Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps. Escondido’s downtown district is home to a variety of restaurants, coffee shops, and retail stores.
